I wanted to follow up yesterday's post Literary Elements: Give the Book a Break with a PDF copy of the handout I used when teaching the lesson. I realized in reviewing the document that I also used the song Smokey Joe's Cafe, which is another great song for teaching all of these literary elements. Most importantly, you should notice how I annotated the text. I included a column on the right where I could ask questions, define words or give the scholars an opportunity to reflect on the content without having to give any verbal directions. This is an excellent way to support vocabulary development while pushing through difficult content.
The particular lesson below was used following an interim assessment because Literary Elements were identified as an area still needing growth. This was also in preparation for the state exam. I used this lesson at the 6th, 7th and 8th grade levels.

I am impressed with the effort you have so obviously put into this content. I am also impressed Singing Lessons with your point of view on this topic, especially since you have made your points so clear.
